Importance of Local governments in raising own resources as well as contributing to policy based action is being increasingly recognised globally and is of critical importance for emerging economies like India. Local governments like Municipalities, Urban bodies, Panchayats, Cantons and Counties are closer to citizens. The degree of connect with ground realities is much higher. Based on global developments and data analysis it is desirable to enhance outcomes and generate more resources through local governments.
A humble attempt to highlight the possibilities through stronger and professional management of these institutions has been made in this article.
